In 2005, one the most prominent baby stores in Sydney were founded. After having successful careers in the corporate world, and their first son along the way, Banana Baby was born. It was a speculative venture into a growing industry with the owners, John and Natalie seeking a more balanced lifestyle to spend more time with family. Today, it’s regarded as Sydney’s favourite family-owned baby store located in the heart of St Peters.

In the last 20 years, industry dynamics have undoubtedly changed. With the rise of e-commerce and the growing popularity of social media, Banana Baby has rapidly adapted to new challenges with major online presence through millions of views across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. Banana Baby’s visionary approach has kept them alive and well despite economic downturns.

Meanwhile, there has been massive changes in the quality of the products on the market. John has highlighted that more brands are offering more premium products alongside their more innovative features such as prams that can fold to the size of a travel suitcase to an electric pram with app controls. Such great innovation means that prams that were once bright and colourful 20 years ago, are now modernised and simply lack colour. That’s something they really miss.

Anyways, people often ask if Banana Baby is planning on an expansion or opening new stores, but after 20 years of well-earned success, John and Natalie couldn’t be happier. Being a single store has its benefits, and this important decision has allowed Banana Baby to always deliver the best customer service and continue to offer the best products to their customers.
